On Thursday, April 2, The Inside Ride comes to HSC. Our community is raising money for the over 10,000 Canadian children living with cancer or its long term effects, and participating in Canada’s first indoor cycling celebration and fundraising event.
The concept is simple. Six People + One Bike + One Hour = HSC Fighting Cancer.
Each cyclist rides a stationary racing bike for 10 minutes to uplifting music, cheered on by teammates, friends, colleagues and spectators. Volunteers record mileage, organizers score costumes and team spirit, and everybody celebrates!
You can participate too! Donate to your favourite HSC team by visiting hsc.theinsideride.com or follow the fun April 2 by searching #HSCInside on your favourite social media channel.
We will be closed Friday April 3, 2015 and Monday April 6, 2015 for the Easter long weekend. Our regular office hours will resume on Tuesday April 7, 2015. We hope that you have a wonderful long weekend with your family.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the latest HSC Senior School production, coming April 23 and 24 at 7:00 p.m. to the Virtue-Fitzgerald Centre for the Arts! Rehearsals are underway for the comedy classic, Arsenic and Old Lace.
This play is set in the cozy home of two sweet, old ladies whose pastimes include cooking meals for the less fortunate, donating to charities … and burying dead bodies in the basement. When their nephew, Mortimer finds out about their buried ‘gentlemen’, he attempts to help them avoid prosecution. This is somewhat complicated when Mortimer’s evil brother returns from adventures abroad and tries to move back into the family home. Along the way, Mortimer needs to contend with his recent engagement as well as his other brother who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt. As Mortimer puts it, “Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops!”
The Admissions Department has set aside a block of tickets for prospective families. If you would like to see our Senior School’s production of Arsenic and Old Lace, please contact Jodi Blore at firstname.lastname@example.org or 905-389-1367, ext. 191.

Applications are currently being accepted, and space is extremely limited. For more information, or to arrange a tour, please contact Sheriann Heath-Johnston, Admissions Manager at email@example.com or 905-389-1367, ext. 106.

The arrival of the boys of our snowboard team on the OFSAA podium is a feel-good, underdog story. Reflecting on a challenging season, it was through sheer grit and determination that they took the CISAA gold to qualify for OFSSA. On Thursday, February 26 they faced not only the competitors they defeated by the slimmest of margins in the CISAA division, but 160 of the very best snowboarders in the province.
Despite seemingly insurmountable odds, Coach Webber knew the team had five solid racers, each with the skills and talent needed to place the team in the top three. After the first run, their combined results placed the boys in 4th, just 11 points behind the 3rd place team, and with only two points separating them from 5th and 6th teams.
The team’s determination was evident in the second run of the day. Several boarders improved their times lifted valuable places from their opponents. Their team performance earned the boys’ team OFSAA bronze—the first OFSAA snowboarding team medal in HSC history.
This February the Senior Kindergarten class has been busy studying all things dinosaur, culminating in a guided tour of the Royal Ontario Museum’s famous dinosaur exhibit.

Middle School student Kishore Jaiswal recently had one of his poems published in Island Magic, an Anthology of Verse. It was published by the Poetry Institute of Canada as part of their Adult Creative Writing Contest.
Kishore’s poem is below.
I have gone in many dusty Jeeps, but this ride was the
beginning of an adventure.
I am worn out and used for climbing hard dusty hills and mountains.
As I go up the hill, I see lots of trees and bushes
with singing birds on them, and dusty plants and the little pebbles
hitting the side of me.
Every trip just gets better and better every time, and I can’t wait
to go again.
I go up the steep and dirty stairs, the path is very narrow
and if I slip, I will slip 4,200 metres.
This walking spree seems to be going on forever.
In celebration of both Wellness Week and Valentine’s Day, the Montessori students re-visited the Love Ball project. The M8s, who had previously worked on the project, took the lead in classroom discussions from M6 to M9 identifying strategies they use to make them feel better when experiencing sadness or are upset in their life. Students shared these methods by writing them on the Love Ball.
Ashley Leggat dropped by on Thursday, February 26 to promote her upcoming Triple Threat summer camp at HSC! Ashley spoke to our Grade 8 drama class, giving insight on her acting career and techniques.
Ashley is excited to be working with HSC again this summer. “I’m looking forward to expanding the camp and seeing my old campers and meeting new ones,” she said. “This year, we will be focusing on the triple threat aspects – singing, dancing and acting. We will be putting on a show at the end for family and friends and we will also be having some special guests from other current TV shows that I’m sure the kids will be very excited about!”
Ashley is a Hamilton born two-time Gemini nominated actress. She starred as ‘Casey’ in Disney and Family Channel’s hit comedy series Life with Derek, and the movie Vacation with Derek.
