Homecoming: A Celebration of Arts, Athletics and Community

May has been an exciting month at HSC. It began with our annual Homecoming on Saturday, May 12, 2018, which encompassed arts, athletics and community activities. The Senior School Girls’ Rugby sevens defeated Greenwood College School, finishing their season as CISSAA championships. The Middle, Junior and Montessori schools participated in a 1-km fun run as well as games and interactive activities around the college. The evening was rounded out by a wonderful showing of Alumni who returned to campus excited to celebrate reunion years ending in 8 and 3 with friends.

French Speaking Contest Showcases HSC’s Global Language Programme

Congratulations to Senior Student Veronica Bolis on her second-place win at the Provincial-level French Speaking Contest held on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Her speech showcased her volunteer experience at English Conversation Circle, a local initiative that partners HSC students with new immigrants.  Veronica has also recently written the French Proficiency Exam, DELF. If she is successful, Veronica will able to be admitted into the Bilingual stream at the University of Ottawa.

Artist Paull Rodrigue Educates Students on the Art of Glassblowing

On Thursday, May 3, grade 11 visual arts students visited local glass artist, Paull Rodrigue.  Students gained insight into the business of a full-time artist, as well as many aspects of working with hot glass. Each student had a chance to work with the material and make their own unique piece.

College-wide Relay for Life Initiative

Students are excited to participate in the upcoming Relay for Life event this month. This school-wide fundraising event raises money and awareness in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. To symbolize the ongoing fight against cancer, HSC students will be taking turns walking around the track for 10 hours. The day will finish with a luminary ceremony decorated by students and staff who have been affected by cancer.

HSC Students Win First Place in ASU Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives Awards

Following their success at BASEF, Rishi Popuri (grade 10) and Kishore Jaiswal (grade 9) represented Canada this month at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pittsburgh. Their project, “Utilizing the Limestone Cycle to Reduce Net Atmospheric CO2 While Simultaneously Producing Electricity” won 1st prize in the ASU Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives Award. We wish them the best, as they will be featured on Daily Planet later this month.

New Student Welcome Dinner

We were delighted to welcome our newest incoming HSC students to campus on Thursday, May 31 at our New Student Welcome Dinner. The Admissions team and our student Ambassadors offered a number of activities to ensure everyone feels truly welcomed into the HSC community.
