Welcome Back!

After a restful and rejuvenating holiday season, the month of January kicked into high gear with athletic tournaments, a student-led World Issues Conference, preparations for Grade 4 and 8 students transitioning into Grades 5 and 9, a local television news show taping at HSC, and Middle School trips to famous Canadian heritage sites. We hope you enjoy some of these stories below.

International Admissions Process at HSC

Do you know a student who is interested in applying to Hillfield Strathallan College? Below is an outline of our application process:

  • Complete an online application.
  • Forward required documents (copy of passport; last two academic report cards; transcript, if available).
  • Provide results from an English Proficiency Test (IELTS, TOEFL, iTEP, Vericant). For a list of our minimum scores, please click here.
  • Once a file is reviewed for minimum requirements, one or more Skype interviews with Senior School representatives will be booked or, when possible,  the student will come for a visit day to the school. A response regarding an offer will follow.

Local News Show Features HSC

On January 16, CH Morning Live’s Tim Bolen visited HSC’s campus to learn more about some of the unique features of the educational experience at the College. Tim learned about leadership opportunities at HSC from our student ambassadors and Prefects, Project-Based Learning from our Grade 2 students, athletics from our senior rugby and wrestling teams, and our House system from Montessori students. Alumni Reunite and Face-Off in Community Hockey Tournament

Another record-setting Alumni Reunion filled the Coach and Lantern Pub with past HSC graduates before the holidays. Following the reunion, the annual Community Hockey Tournament brought back students, staff, parents, faculty, and alumni of all ages to face off against each other in a fun competition.

HSC Playground Project Wins Prestigious Award

Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, led by alumni Jill ’84 and Adam Bienenstock ’84, was presented with the Award of Excellence for Design at the 2017 Landscape Ontario Awards. The Playground Project at HSC incorporates three toddler and preschool areas, a courtyard and a revamping of the Middle and Senior School blacktops. The project brings together ideas, themes and materials influenced by input from HSC students, faculty and staff. Preview the photos at this link to see some of the many structures that will be part of the new playgrounds.

Grade 8 Students Host a World Issues Conference

The Grade 8 students at HSC hosted 120 visiting students for the World Issues Conference on January 19. The conference brought together students to discuss issues such as equality, education, and environmental problems. After being introduced to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the group enjoyed a day that included an inspirational speaker, collaboration and brainstorming among a diverse group of students, and sharing of original “slam” poetry. Our Grade 8 students also displayed projects related to the UN Goals—an extremely thought-provoking addition to the hallways at HSC for students, parents and staff to admire.
